ATLAS
A private app for your family: chat and call, see where everyone is, and get help fast with SOS and check-ins. Everything is end-to-end encrypted, on a server you control.
Getting started
ATLAS has no accounts and no sign-up. Each family uses its own ATLAS server, a single program that you, or someone you trust, runs on a Linux machine. The server only passes encrypted messages along and cannot read them. You join a family with a single-use invite.
Start a family
- On the server, run
atlas invite create --qr. - In the app, scan the QR code or paste the invite link, enter your name and tap "Create family".
Add someone
- Go to Chats → shield icon → "Invite someone here (QR)".
- Let them scan the code with ATLAS on their phone, then approve the request on your screen.
Inviting in person is best. If you send an invite link instead, ATLAS asks you to compare safety numbers with them, for example on a video call, before you can approve. Until then, their phone gets no locations or SOS alerts.
In an emergency
ATLAS adds to Apple's Emergency SOS and the emergency services; it does not replace them. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number first.
Support
Found a bug, got stuck, or have an idea? Send me an email. ATLAS is a hobby project, but I read every message and usually reply within a few days.
- [email protected]
Please include
- Your device model and iOS version
- The app version (shown in the App Store under Version History) and the server version (
atlas version) - What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
- A screenshot, if it helps
Please don't send invite links, invite QR codes, or screenshots that show your family's messages or locations.
Privacy
ATLAS does not collect personal data, show ads or track you. Your messages, calls and locations are end-to-end encrypted, and only your family's phones can read them. Read the full privacy policy.
